Wally W.'s 1974 Gran Torino®
"Starsky & Hutch"® Replica
(on the left)
|
|
|
| When Wally sent me these photos in March of 2011, he
owned both of these cars. But he has since sold the one on the right to his friend Terry C. |
|
|
| Wally bought the 1974 Gran Torino on the left in December
of 2010 from David Y. of Connecticut. This was one of the Zebra 3 creations out of San Diego. "This car purrs
like a kitten," he says, "and is super reliable. David took great care of her! This also has a 351 Cleveland
and dual exhaust, but it has a 4 barrel and more great stuff! Initially it came with an 8-track player/CB radio
combo. It also has a CD player, a DVD player, wig-wag lights, siren, line lock and PA. The steering wheel has no
horn, so I'm looking for a rim-blow steering wheel replacement for it because you MUST have a horn in L.A.!" |
|
|
| "I also am going to remove the 8-track/CB radio
combo and replace it with a modern CD/MP3 system" Wally says. "I'm also going to remove the line lock
system, since the L.A. police frown on burn outs on the streets. I'm also having an alarm put on it. This one (I've
named her Megan) is painted in Viper Red. I have to do some work on refurbishing the interior, and I would also
like to have the exterior totally repainted someday as I'm not happy with the tip of the stripe or the angularity
of the back of the stripe. I much prefer Steve Casteel's paint scheme on '26,' so I plan on using her as a paint
model for the painter to emulate when painting the David Y. Torino. I will probably stay with the Viper Red paint
scheme since it gets SO much attention when driving around town." |
|
|
| After this photo shoot, Wally and his friend James
drove both Torinos in tandem down Riverside Drive for lunch at Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake. He says, "You
should have seen the looks we got as both of these beauties drove down the street, one after the other!" |
