Tony used to own one of the 1,000 original factory S&H Gran Torinos in 1976 or 1977. He had it for about 4 or 5 years and sold it because he wanted a Corvette. Can you believe that? Okay, I guess I can. Shortly after selling the Corvette, he started wanting his Torino back, but about that time he got married and had more important things to spend money on. Well, 2006 was their 20th anniversary, so he's been wanting one a long time, and he was really excited when he was the winning bidder of this car on eBay.

This Torino has a 400 cid engine. The interior was originally a goldish color but has been changed to black. The car has A/C but it doesn't blow cold air, although Tony plans to have that checked sometime. (Sounds like my Torino, and a lot of others!) It also has cruise control and split bench seat with arm rests in the center. When he picked the car up it had about 49,000 miles on it.

Tony now has about 53,000 on the car. 2,000 of them are from driving it home from Washington to Michigan - what a fun trip that must have been! Since he got it home, Tony has put new tires on it and had the wheels professionally polished. It had 14 inch wheels all around, but Tony found a set of 15 inch wheels for the rear, and also added air shocks to get the right stance. He replaced the windshield, which was cracked, and the front bumper because it was pretty rough and someone had drilled holes in the top to mount some kind of lights.

The car only had an original factory AM radio in it, but Tony also put in a Pioneer CD player. He says his next major fix will be to upgrade the engine, which he says runs fine but needs "more guts." Again, sounds like my Torino, and a lot of others! Remember, these were built to be mid-sized five passenger family sedans - not muscle cars, and certainly not police cruisers! Well, unless you happen to buy one that was specifically built to be a police cruiser, and I haven't seen one of those yet! Thanks for sharing, Tony!
