I'm going to let Sam tell his story in his own words because it's so good. "Let me start by saying that I am a very blessed man," he says. "Probably like most of you, when I was 10 years old, every week I would sit on my mother's floor and watch 'Starsky & Hutch.' Ever since then, I told my mom I was going to be a cop like Starsky. Well, due to a knee problem, I couldn't be a cop. BUT, now for the cool part of my story:

My brother works in the movie industry for [special effects master] Stan Winston. They did the special effects for Terminator, Predator, and many other movies. One night, I went to a party my brother was having with all his studio buddies. My brother introduced me to a good friend of his that worked as a production assistant on the 'Starsky & Hutch' TV show. He had a stunt car in his lot with other muscle cars he had collected over the years. We hit it off great, and when he showed me the car I went crazy inside, even though it was beat to heck. He also had pictures of him with Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul on the studio lot.

He then broke the news to me that he was getting rid of his cars, and asked if I wanted the Torino. I guess he had seen my excitement! The car was in very bad condition. He said he got the car from the producer after it was used to shoot the episode 'Starsky and Hutch are Guilty' where they had crashed it into another car a couple of times. The whole driver's side was dented. The engine and interior were shot because his son used to drive the car, and then it sat in his dirt lot for many years.

After I got the car, I was looking for a good body shop to restore it for me. My brother blessed me again by introducing me to another friend of his named George Barris. George is responsible for creating such great cars as the original TV Batmobile, the Monkey Mobile, and the Munsters car. I showed George the car and he offered to do the body and paint for me. In fact, he masked the stripe himself. He also made my life by using my car for celebrity charity car shows and a recent TV Land Special 'The Ten Greatest TV Show Cars.' TV Land interviewed him with my car in the background for the show. When George saw the metal tape I had put on the bottom of the car where the rocker panels go, because I couldn't find or afford the originals, he got the original rocker panel moldings for me. He is a great guy.

The car's engine is a 351 Cleveland with aluminum heads, performance intake manifold, Holly 650 carburetor, MSD ignition system, a Super Stock cam, Hooker headers, Flowmaster mufflers, C6 transmission, and a Hurst shifter that my brother installed. The seats and steering wheel were changed after I got the car. I could not find the original parts, but I will probably look for the original parts sometime."

I have had a great time with this Torino so far. I might not have been able to become a cop like Starsky, but I got his car!
