"Starsky & Hutch"®Ford Gran Torino®
Rodney bought this car late in 1999, contacted me in February 2000, and
sent these pictures in 2005. It's great to find another of the original 1,000
factory-produced S&H Gran Torinos that is still alive and well somewhere!
Somebody clear-coated this car once upon
a time, and it's peeling off, so Rodney
is preparing to have the car repainted and many of the original chrome parts restored.
The car didn't even run when he bought it 6 years ago. Since then, the engine has been
rebuilt and a lot more mechanical work has been done to it, so it runs great!
Ford built only 1,000 S&H Gran Torinos
in 1976, and less than 100 of them are still
around, as far as anyone knows. The few people who own one, no matter what condition
it's in - from those in need of complete restoration to those that are showroom new -
are glad to have them. As time goes by, they will only become more rare and valuable.
Mostly, we just like having them because it's fun to drive a car like Starsky's, but
there's certainly nothing wrong with owning a fun car that's also a collector's item!
