Mike V.'s Limited Production 1976
"Starsky & Hutch"®Gran
Torino®

|
| This car was ordered and purchased
new in Lake City, Iowa, and spent its whole life there. Mike is only the fourth owner. The lady he purchased it
from was using it as her daily driver except in the winter. When he called her about the car, he began asking questions
to verify if it was one of the original 1,000 made. The owner said it did have the data sticker on the driver's
door jamb with a 0022 DSO number in the bottom right corner. On the passenger side firewall, she confirmed, it
did have a metal plate that had PS-122 stamped on it. |
|
|
| At that point, Mike knew it was a Limited
Production S&H unit for sure, but he "had to keep going," so he asked her if she knew how to remove
the back seat, and she had her son do it. Sure enough, they found a build sheet under there with "Starsky
and "Hutch" printed on it. |

|
| Mike bought the car immediately and
drove it home. He says it was "a fantastic ride." On the way home, his phone rang and the caller was
another person who had been considering buying the car. The man asked if the car was an original S&H unit and
if there was any rust on it. When Mike told him it was original and had no rust, they guy said, "I know what
you paid for it and I will give you $2,500 more sight unseen for it right now." Mike knew, of course, that
he wouldn't sell it, but talked to the guy for a while and found out the caller was also the owner of one of the
original 1,000 S&H units, but his needed to be restored so he wanted this one. But Mike wisely wouldn't let
it go! I hope the other guy will take the money he wanted to spend on this car and use it to restore his - give
it a second change and the new life it deserves! |
|
|
| When he bought it, Mike says, the car
was filthy and the paint was very dull, but it "came alive" after many hours of buffing waxing. Mike
immediately put slotted mags on it because, as most owners agree, the original Magnum 500 wheels "didn't do
the car justice." Mike put on new tires and air shocks for a better stance. Then the original single exhaust
"had to go," he says, so he installed dual exhaust, and now the car sounds great. |
|
|
| Mike says, "I probably shouldn't drive it as much
as I do, since it only has 32,500 miles on it, but I can't hold back and it is a blast." I completely understand
- I drive my car all over the country and would never trailer it anywhere - but I hope Mike will TRY to hold back
a little to maintain the car's dollar value. This is one of the lowest mileage original S&H units I've seen! |
