This 1976 Gran Torino was built in Chicago near the time that the 1,000 S&H units were built, so it's a real close relative. Lewis purchased it in 2002 from a guy in Evansville, Wisconsin, and took it to its new home just across the river from Evansville, Indiana! (I hear the "Twilight Zone" theme playing!)

Not long after our 2006 S&H Torino Reunion in Evansville IN / Henderson KY, Lewis had himself a little accident ("What's that in the road, Lewis?" "A dog, Fiddler, that's a dog in the Road!") and ended up, a few months later, with a whole new paint job and some fresh body work. Before he could even get the back bumper on the car, he was winning trophies in car shows!

Lewis had this 351 Modified engine installed in the Spring of 2006. It's a Jasper crate engine, built right there in Evansville, Indiana. Lewis also upgraded to a 4 barrel 670 cfm Holley carb and had his transmission rebuilt. I'm told the car runs good and sounds GREAT!

That's a whole new quarter panel on the car. Yes, you can buy them brand new, but they are designed for earlier model Torinos. A good body shop, though, can work some "magic" on them and make the modifications necessary to fit 1974-76 models.

Until we get a full side shot of the car someday (when the weather turns nice), you might have a hard time seeing the uniqueness of the stripe on Lewis' car. This is, as far as I know, the first car painted to be a replica of the Torino in the S&H TV pilot. Lewis studied the DVD and got every detail right. Compared to the stripe on the TV series cars, this one's a little more narrow across the top, a little higher as it runs down the side, and stops short of the front.

Lewis is a one-of-a-kind guy, so it's appropriate that he should be the first and only (for now) owner of a S&H Pilot Replica!
