Jimmy H.'s Starsky & Hutch Torino

Jimmy purchased this Torino in November 2002. After making a 1,500 mile round trip to see the car in New York, he made another one to bring it home to Kentucky in a covered trailer. Jimmy is the fourth person to own this car since it was added to this web site in 1999. Jimmy bought it from Russ S. in New York who bought it from Milt W. in Michigan who bought it from Jim G. in Wisconsin. Got that?

Two owners ago, in 2000, the car underwent a complete restoration. The entire frame, under body, and all components were sand blasted, epoxy primed, and painted with urethane paint (PPG) for durability. The rear end was gone through, replacing bearings and seals. The C-4 transmission was rebuilt because of old seals. All suspension rubber components were replaced with graphite impregnated urethane rubber bushings. All front end parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm and strut bushings were replaced.

The car received new shocks and brakes (front and rear) along with new wheel cylinders, calipers, and all associated hardware. The entire car was repainted with the "TV show" style stripe and all the body panels are solid (no Bondo).

The 351 Windsor was rebuilt, machined .030 over, balanced, blueprinted, and the crank was polished. The engine was assembled using Edelbrock performance parts including aluminum heads and intake along with a cam and 650 cfm 4-barrel carb.

The work was topped-off with a dual exhaust system. The motor was built to be a nice running and sounding street car - but not a race car. The engine still looks fairly stock, and all the original parts were kept.

The car now has 52,000 original miles on it, and other owners have picked up where previous ones left off and have been putting the "finishing touches" on the restoration, such as installing many NOS parts, including all four wheel lip opening moldings, fuel filler door emblem, rear tail light lenses and bezels, floor shift bezel, and door sill plates. A lot of work has been done to get just the right "stance" for the car by installing new 2-inch-higher rear coil springs and adding 15" x 8.5" rear 5-slotted aluminum mags matched with 255-60-R15 tires. Together with 14" x 7" front wheels with 215-70-R14 tires, these changes give the car a very nice rake. A new carpet from ACC and restored rear window package tray have completed the interior, which is still in great original condition.

Thanks to the preservation efforts of previous owners, Jimmy has all the original documentation, including two build sheets and window sticker, receipts, and pictures of the restoration in progress! The last photo, above, featuring Jimmy and his lovely wife Deb, was taken at our Annual Starsky & Hutch Torino Owners Reunion in Evansville, Indiana in 2003.They also attended in 1994.Jimmy's car is one of the nicest I've ever seen!
