This 1976 Ford Gran Torino,®built at the Chicago Ford assembly plant, was rebuilt by Ray Claridge at Cinema Vehicle Services for the 2004 "Starsky & Hutch"®movie. It was set up as one of two jump vehicles. You can see the heavy front suspension modifications in the engine compartment photo below. This vehicle can be seen in at least two shots in the movie and was also used in print advertisements. Penny and John Q. saw this car on the movie set when they visited in April of 2003!

The car on the left, also Jesse's, is the 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner used in the movie, "The Punisher," with Thomas Jane and John Travolta.

You can see this Torino in the S&H movie when detectives Starsky and Hutch pull up beside Huggy Bear's 1976 Lincoln in the alley. You can also see it near the end of the movie when it slides in front of a ice cream truck (which we also saw on the set) after exiting the golf course.

The other jump car did all the major jumps and stunts, the movie crew just kept bending it back together for the next jump. Jesse's car was deemed too nice to jump. It has some battle scars from the movie, minor dents that need paint touch ups (although I wouldn't change a thing on the car if I owned it), but overall Jesse says the car is in excellent shape.

This Gran Torino had a 351 Modified engine in it during filming, but Jesse pulled it apart to see why it was knocking and found out it was a 400 with the 5M crank. So now he's in the process of rebuilding the 400 but he's going to install a set of Aussie 351 C closed-chamber heads. The engine should be pretty stout, he says, and dependable when he gets done. "I'm not looking for huge horsepower, just a dependable, good-running car I can start driving to car shows."

The two photos above show the special jump suspension in the engine compartment and the skid plate underneath.
