Francesco C.'s 1975 Gran Torino®
"Starsky & Hutch"®Replica
| "After a long time," Francesco
says, "I finally realized my best-loved dream! Since I was a child, I've wanted to create a copy of Starsky's
car. When I was a child watching TV, I told my mother, 'Someday I'll became a policeman and drive a car like that!'" |
| "I found this car thanks to my
best friend who works at an American car dealer in Italy," he says. "It was good-looking for its age!
It had 74,000 miles on it and a 351 engine. It had the gear shifter on the steering column like the cars in the
TV series." |
| Francesco dismantled every piece of
his car one by one to re-build it as Starsky's car. "Day by day I built my dream - that's incredible!"
he says. "I spent 4 months of my life, night and day. My family and my girlfriend only know the great drama
that I went through. Now it is not a dream but reality. The waiting was worth it!" |
| Francesco says the car still needs
trim and some other details, but he's done a lot of work in his first four months, and there will be plenty of
time to work out the little details. |
| Francesco is looking for bigger tires
and the original TV-show style slotted mag rims. Then he'll build the suspension up - but, he says, "that's
all for the moment because I want drive it!" Francesco says, "I am 30 years old and my job is the same
as Starsky's, I drive a Ford Gran Torino - oh yes!" I love his enthusiasm, don't you? I hope all of us who
are fortunate enough to own a S&H Torino never get bored with them, but stay as excited as Francesco! |
